Gables Bend + Studio is the whole property, booked by one group. The main house and a separate garden studio share a private pool, an outdoor spa and a deck built for long lunches. Eight people, two front doors, one garden, and a short walk into Daylesford.
The Space
The main house has an open-plan living and dining room with blue velvet sofas, a Smart TV and sliding doors to the deck. Its kitchen has a stove, a dishwasher, microwave, freezer, toaster and a Nespresso machine. The dining table is where a group of eight gathers for dinner.
The studio sits across the garden with its own private entrance. It is one open room with a queen bed, a sofa, a small dining table, a kitchenette and a bathroom with a spa bath. It suits the couple who want a door of their own.
There is no internal door between the two. You move between them through the garden, which is part of the appeal.
Sleeping Arrangements
Main house: a king bedroom with an electric fireplace, a queen bedroom, and a sofa bed for one adult or two children. Studio: a queen bed. That is three bedrooms and two bathrooms for up to eight. Black-out blinds, fresh linen, extra pillows and blankets are in every room.
Work and Connectivity
Wi-Fi and Smart TVs in both dwellings, plus a dedicated workspace. Heating and cooling runs through each, with radiant heaters for cold nights. Washing machine, dryer and drying rack are on site, and long stays are welcome.
Pool, Spa and Garden
Everything outside is private to your group. The deck looks down over the pool, with sun loungers along one side and the outdoor spa under its pergola at the end. The BBQ and outdoor dining setting seat the whole party. The pool is seasonal. The garden is private, pets are allowed, and there is free parking on the property.
The Neighbourhood
The walk into town runs down to Vincent Street, where Himalaya Bakery sells sourdough opposite the Town Hall and Hotel Frangos serves pizzas from its bar and restaurant. Raglan Street has Cliffy's Emporium for cheese, charcuterie and lamb pies. For a group dinner, book the Farmers Arms Hotel, or GRAIN at Daylesford Brewing Co.
Lake Daylesford and its Peace Mile Walk are an easy stroll, with The Boathouse Restaurant on the shoreline. Lake House is the town's landmark restaurant, and its Dairy Flat Farm grows much of the produce. Jubilee Lake is quieter, with boat hire and fishing.
Book a group session at Hepburn Bathhouse & Spa in Hepburn Springs, then fill bottles at the Hepburn Mineral Springs Reserve. The restored Hepburn Palais hosts live music.
Sunday is market day: the Daylesford Sunday Market at the railway station, and a vintage train on the Daylesford Spa Country Railway. Rainy days suit the Mill Markets. For a long lunch, try Sault at Sailors Falls, or taste at Passing Clouds and Istra Smallgoods in Musk. Daylesford Cider is close, and Lavandula at Shepherds Flat has lavender and farm animals for the children.
Walkers can do the Sailors Falls loop, follow Sailors Creek from Tipperary Springs, or climb the crater rim at Mount Franklin in Hepburn Regional Park. Further afield are Creswick, about 20 minutes, and Piper Street in Kyneton, about 40.
Daylesford Health has a 24/7 Urgent Care Centre. V/Line coaches connect with trains at Woodend and Ballarat.
